Blog about blogging & technology in general

I admit that I did not grow up teething on a keyboard. I did quite well in typing in H/S and still have my shorthand awards. (Any one remember shorthand? No, it's nothing physical, really.) And, sadly, I rarely used it other than for notes so I remember little of it. I haven't seen a book on shorthand in the library in many years either - say are there any typing books on our shelves? Kids are typing almost before they talk these days.

We sent our oldest daughter off to college with a brand new word processor as the computers at school were in short supply. In fact, I don't recall if they had them for students her first year. Yep, that was a while ago, too. Anyhow, we got our first pc about the time she graduated - not sure exactly what year. We just purchased our 4th one, (maybe third?).

My mother got into the swing by purchasing a little piece of equipment called a Mail Station. She was probably in her 70s. Mom was willing to experience a lot of things - she received a coupon for a hot air balloon ride at one of her 70+ birthdays and she actually went up in one. She enjoyed the Mail Station as she could correspond with her many relatives - especially her youngest brother in CA (she lived in NH) who is/was a professor at some college in San Diego. My mother-in-law, too, has grown to appreciate her pc, IMing with her twin sister, daughter and other family.

Anyhow, I find technology frustrating. I have so many passwords, usernames, I hardly know myself anymore! But, hey, I do pay some bills on line; my bank claims to be mailing me bank statements, but I've not seen one since October. Hence there's 3-statements. So guess I'd best stay up to date as best I can. Now getting VA tax info is harder so I have their site bookmarked. (See, I even know some of the lingo.) It's moving ahead so fast that I find I'm always a bit behind. Thank goodness for smart daughters who get me out of technology trouble.

This LCPL Thing has frustrated me to no end at times. Looking at the next few Things are intimidating, but with assistance I'll keep on keeping on.

The only pets we have we 'come by naturally'. We've been feeding birds for several years, adding a feeder periodically; running the squirrels off often. My Dad was always hand feeding chicadees in NH each winter. They loved eating his home made donuts right from his hand. They got so friendly they'd land on our heads if we stood quitely close to their food. Anyhow, we have chickadees, woodpeckers, juncos, bluejays, finches, titmice, etc. etc.

#4 Have confidence in yourself as a competent, effective learner.

Confidence has always been an issue with me. Perhaps that is why I admire the giraffe who with such a long neck, is very regal, exuding confidence in it's quiet manner. The giraffe reaches above others easily, curly it's tongue quickly around even the thorniest branch.

Confident, self-assured. I admire that in others.
